A RITE OF PASSAGE FOR MEN
The Larapinta Trail in Outback Australia traverses ancient and beautiful country.
Hundreds of millions of year old, weathered and timeless.
The perfect location for a Rite of Passage.
16 men, two experienced facilitators and two camp cooks.
A walking, guided, meditative two week rite combining deep sharing, inner work, ritual, ceremony and fun, held in the stunning natural beauty of the MacDonnell ranges.
For the fourth year, Oliver Bergel and John Callanan will lead a small group on a personal rite of passage in the desert wilderness. It will be a challenging opportunity to transform yourself and accept the invitation to awaken; to come to Love.
The desert country has few of the comforts or distractions of home. Wilderness by nature is untamed and walking for two weeks in such a unique environment will open you in magical ways.
All you will need is top quality walking shoes and suitable clothing, a day pack capable of carrying 8 kg comfortably and a sleeping bag that will keep you warm to minus 5 degrees plus transport to and from Alice Springs, NT.
Our camp cook and support vehicle driver will provide hearty meals catering to carnivores and vegetarians. Alcohol and illegal drugs are not part of this journey. Nor are showers, flushing toilets, clothes washing, or contact with the outside world. We supply all other camping gear you will need.
When: 15th to 29th August 2015
The direct costs to hold this event is $2400 per person, plus a minimum donation to Oliver and John for their guided facilitation of $1250 is expected. Total minimum cost is therefore $3,650 – more is encouraged.
This rite of passage for men, is a vehicle for opening the masculine heart to its true nature as a vessel of power and love. A place beyond story and suffering that sets a man free to love wholly and fully and serve in this world.
It is a grounded, experiential journey to provide an experience of a self that is real, practical and authentic.
Some call it sacred masculine, others awake or truth.
We have no need to name it, but we will provide a vehicle to experience it and allow you to find its name.
It is a journey of discovery not perfection, and has no outcome or end point beyond the establishment of a relationship with a self that is not based on something you are not.
Unlike psychotherapeutic processes this journey does not use the dismantling of your ego structure, or engaging with the trauma it has created to get beyond the structure. All that we do is contained within the five elements of a rite of passage, which are:
1. Temporarily leaving your community with others of the same gender.
2. The sharing of stories and or lore.
4. A reckoning with God, mortality and the substance of life itself.
5. Honouring and returning to community.
